The 17th Hermoupolis Guitar festival will organize the 7th International Guitar Competition on July 2010.
There will be three age categories and the Competition will be conducted in two rounds (elimination and final). Guitarists of all nationalities are admitted and both rounds will be open to the public. The main criteria for judging will be the artist’s musical personality and individuality.
Categories and program

(A) Junior category:
up to 14 years old (born after July 1st, 1996). ELIMINATION ROUND: Two pieces from different periods; total time not to exceed 5 minutes. FINAL ROUND: A free choice program not to exceed 5 minutes.
(B) Youth Category:
from 14 to 17 years old (born between July 1st 1996 and July 1st 1993). ELIMINATION ROUND: Free piece. Total time not to exceed 12 minutes. FINAL ROUND: A free choice program not to exceed 12 minutes.
(C) Senior Category:
17 old and above (born before July 1st 1993). ELIMINATION ROUND: Two or more pieces from different periods, total time not to exceed 15 minutes. FINAL ROUND: A free choice program not to exceed totaling 20 minutes.

Rules
1. The candidate’s proposed program must be submitted with the application. Changes in the program after the deadline for submission of applications will not be accepted. 2. The order of appearance will be determined by draw just before the beginning of each round. The number of competitors in the Final Round may not be more than five (5). 3. All pieces must be played by memory. Pieces from the Elimination Round may not be played again in the Final Round. 4. The jury's decision will be final and the jury will have the right to grant or withhold any award. A competitor’s performance may be interrupted at any moment by the Jury. The judge’s individual scores will be confidential. 5. The festival retains exclusive rights to audio and video recording during the Competition without further obligation to the competitors. 6. Expenses for travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the candidates. The enrolment fee is not refundable. 7. Application to participate in the competition implies that the contestants unconditionally accept all of the above rules.
Prizes
Prizes awarded to the first-place winners in each category will include Concert guitars, music accessories, books, scores e.t.c. The 1st prize of the senior category (C), includes a concert during the next festival. All finalists will receive an Honorary Diploma. Prize-winners are obliged to accept their prizes in person during the final concert of the festival.
